Patrick grew up in West Lafayette and is a product of this outstanding community. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force and a graduate of Purdue University. For the past 18 years, Patrick has served his community as a full-time police officer. He has been a certified Law Enforcement Instructor for more than 15 years and has taught hundreds of officers in numerous areas of specialties, including firearms, SWAT and other critical performance standards.
Patrick was introduced to CrossFit in 2005 by a fellow SWAT Officer who had been crushing him on SWAT Physical Fitness Standard evaluations. He went to CrossFit.com and has never looked back. Like most CrossFitters, the first WOD was an agonizing, yet humbling, epiphany. At the age of 38, he found the fountain of youth and began drinking the CrossFit “Kool-Aid.” His only regret was that he did not discover it sooner. As a lifelong fitness and nutrition enthusiast, Patrick quickly realized that CrossFit was a comprehensive, true wellness lifestyle that had the ability to change lives. Patrick received his CrossFit Level I at Rogue Fitness in 2008 and opened CrossFit West Lafayette, one of the first Indiana CrossFit Affiliates, in February of 2009.“It was a true blessing to receive coaching from some of the CrossFit legends, such as Jon Gilson (owner of Again Faster), EC Synkowski, Josh Everett, Todd Widman and Tony Budding,” Patrick says. “I soaked up all I could and continue to follow their example today.”
Over the last three-plus years, Patrick has had the honor to coach hundreds of CrossFit enthusiasts and has helped to guide them along the CrossFit path. He is looking forward to the opportunity to share CrossFit with anyone who will listen. (And, yes, he likes to talk.)
Kristin earned a bachelor’s degree in movement & sports science from Purdue University. She has her Level 1 and Coaches Prep certificates as a CrossFit trainer that, combined with her fitness education, allows her to maximize potential in her clients. Kristin is married and the mother of three boys: Jack, Jayce and Jett. Kristin has had a great opportunity over the years to work with mothers, fathers, students, teens and professionals to spread the CrossFit word to gain results. She is a true example of what a commitment to CrossFit can produce no matter what your age. Before becoming devoted to CrossFit, she assisted friends, family and co-workers for more than 15 years on work/ life balance by providing nutrition and fitness programming to meet their individual needs.
Nate spent 6 years on active duty as a Marine Infantry Officer. While training with the Marines he was introduced to CrossFit by Todd Widman, currently a member of the CrossFit HQ Seminar Staff. CrossFit was the methodology Nate used to prepare for each of his worldwide deployments. He brings firsthand experience with how CrossFit can strengthen you for the most rigorous environments possible and enable you to excel in them. Nate’s positive experiences with CrossFit make him eager to pass on his knowledge to others looking to live better lives. Nate is married to his beloved wife Deanna and has two children.
Deanna (a.k.a. Sweet Dee) ~ CrossFit Level 1, CrossFit Weightlifting
Dee was introduced to CrossFit by her husband, Nate. Her first response was resistance with the mindset of feeling there was no way she could ever do that! After starting their family of two beautiful children it came time for that always dreaded, losing the baby weight! She started with adjusting her eating habits. Practicing techniques of Paleo cooking and baking came first; this meant eating a “rainbow” of foods paired with lean meats, minimal starches and shopping along the exterior of the grocery store. This was a simple change that produced energized results but she wanted more. She was running often along with practicing Pilates/Yoga but never felt that all the pieces of the puzzle were fitting into place. Plus, in today’s busy life-style, when did she have the time to fit MORE in to her workouts? This is what made her take a look back at CrossFit and decide she should push herself to at least give it a try. What could it hurt? She gave 3 months of diligent dedication to CrossFit. CrossFit came with benefits and results both physically and emotionally. The physical body transformation speaks for itself. This, along with the friendships that came with the CrossFit West Lafayette community, provided a plethora of humbling, emotional strength. She’s now chosen to take her background of teaching and combine it with her passion for the CrossFit West Lafayette Community. Coaching there is her way of giving back to the community that has given her the strength of leading a healthy, fun lifestyle with friends.
Chad ~ CrossFit Level 1, USA Weightlifting Coaching
Chad graduated from Purdue’s Krannert School with a degree in management. He is a local law enforcement officer with more than nine years of experience and is currently assigned to the SWAT and Sniper Teams. He started doing CrossFit in 2009. Chad’s wife, Tami, and son, Logan, also are dedicated CFWL members. ”I like that CrossFit provides elite fitness to anyone who is willing to show up and work hard,” Chad says. “It sounds like it might violate the ‘sounds too good to be true’ cliché, but it makes up ground in the ‘nothing good comes easy’ category.” Chad wanted to become a trainer after seeing the profound changes CrossFit provided for his wife and son. “Once I was able to sit back and observe the transformations in Tami and Logan, I wanted to coach anyone who would listen,” he says. “I enjoy being a part of this amazing community of people who like to work hard and get better.”
Allison ~ CrossFit Level 1
Allison holds a bachelor’s degree in dietetics from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree in recreation administration from Illinois State University. She is an ACE certified health coach, group fitness instructor and personal trainer, Yoga Fit Level 1 instructor, and currently works in fitness operations at Purdue University. Although she has always lived an active and healthy lifestyle, Allison found herself in the same fitness routine day after day. While in graduate school, her supervisor suggested she work at a CrossFit affiliate to fulfill her master’s degree internship requirement. As they say, the rest is history, as she immediately fell in love with CrossFit. For Allison, it was something completely different than anything she had done before. She loved how the workouts added variety to her routine, strengthened her areas of weakness and challenged not only her physical toughness but also her mental toughness. She became a CrossFit trainer to share this passion with others and believes that you can make any fitness goal a reality through hard work, dedication and consistent efforts. She is committed to helping every person that walks in the door improve his or her fitness and find the athlete within.
Alex ~ CrossFit Level 1
Alex is an undergraduate student at Purdue University studying Aeronautical Engineering Technology and is an aspiring Marine Corps pilot. He drank the metaphorical “CrossFit Kool-Aid” about 2 years ago, and has been loving it ever since. Through CrossFit Alex has become a competitive candidate for a military commission, has begun many healthy lifelong habits, and has found an unmatched sense of community with people, like him, who are constantly seeking self-improvement. He is enthusiastic about passing on his knowledge and experience to the others, and enjoys watching people progress as athletes, bettering their lives through their own hard work.
Barrett discovered CrossFit when a friend suggested he try a workout named “Cindy”. Eight rounds and a “near death” experience later, he was hooked and decided to come back for more. Barrett loves the camaraderie that CrossFit builds, and has experienced continued physical and mental benefits since adopting CrossFit’s training philosophy in 2007. He earned his CrossFit Level 1 in 2013 at Atlas Performance in Chicago and is excited to help others along their journey to better fitness.
Barrett is a 2008 graduate of Purdue University with a master’s degree in Computer & Information Technology. During the day he creates software at DelMar Software Development. He is also a performing songwriter, and can be found at various coffee shops and farmer’s markets in the Lafayette area. Ask him sometime about his Fran song.
Michelle ~ CrossFit Level 1
Michelle has been actively involved in the fitness and wellness field for over 10 years as a division I collegiate softball player, strength and conditioning coach, cheerleader, group fitness instructor, personal trainer, manager and programmer. Michelle holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Houston and a master’s degree in health and kinesiology from Purdue University.
Michelle found a community at CrossFit West Lafayette in which she could thrive both as an athlete and an individual. She found herself wanting to become stronger, faster and functionally fit. The sport, coaches, and training atmosphere, however, did more than that; they facilitated positive change. When Michelle would see an athlete attempt to set a new personal record (PR) for weight lifted, everyone would stop and watch. She would see the other members help ‘pump up’ the athlete’s morale and then something unexpected would happen: strangers, who have never had a relationship outside of CrossFit, were now encouraging each other, and a team was formed.
As a coach, Michelle finds an outlet to empower the Purdue and Greater Lafayette community to succeed in the classroom, at work and in life by leading healthy, balanced and active lifestyles, while discovering physical and mental strength they never thought possible.
