Justin -- "JMan"

Education: CrossFit Level 1

Coach. Entrepreneur. Peanut butter aficionado.

Justin is all about helping people move to the next level in their health and fitness, and he loves starting new things. Here's his story in his own words:

"I got into CrossFit from watching the 2014 CrossFit games. It looked so fun and intense that I had to try it. Coming from wrestling in high school, CrossFit was a great way to continue to challenge myself both physically and mentally.

In my free time, you can find me working on crazy gym equipment ideas or eating peanut butter. I also love playing pickup basketball, soccer, and ultimate frisbee games. I have my CrossFit Level 1 and have been coaching at CFWL since the summer of 2016. My favorite part about coaching is helping athletes give it their all in a lift or in a workout. I feel like I have done my job when I see athletes giving their best effort and striving for growth."

Sarah -- "Ripcurl"

Education: CrossFit Level 1

Sarah is a shining light at CFWL. She's been CrossFitting since 2014 and has quite a story. Here's an excerpt:

"...I believe that it all starts with making your health a priority... And nothing gives me more joy than helping other people find and accept that truth.

It’s why I love to coach, especially women and moms that have lost their identity throughout the years. I get more joy out of coaching a PR or having some cue that I gave stick than my own PR’s. I am constantly evolving, and it’s what I love most about CrossFit. You have to constantly adjust your definition of “best version of yourself.” You have never arrived. The joy is most definitely in the journey."

Barrett discovered CrossFit when a friend suggested he try a workout named “Cindy”. Eight rounds and a “near death” experience later, he was hooked and decided to come back for more. Barrett loves the camaraderie that CrossFit builds, and has experienced continued physical and mental benefits since adopting CrossFit’s training philosophy in 2007. He earned his CrossFit Level 1 in 2013 at Atlas Performance in Chicago and is excited to help others along their journey to better fitness.

Barrett is a 2008 graduate of Purdue University with a master’s degree in Computer & Information Technology. During the day he creates software at DelMar Software Development. He is also a performing songwriter, and can be found at various coffee shops and farmer’s markets in the Lafayette area. Ask him sometime about his Fran song.

Chad graduated from Purdue’s Krannert School with a degree in management. He is a local law enforcement officer with more than nine years of experience and is currently assigned to the SWAT and Sniper Teams. He started doing CrossFit in 2009. Chad’s wife, Tami, and son, Logan, also are dedicated CFWL members. ”I like that CrossFit provides elite fitness to anyone who is willing to show up and work hard,” Chad says. “It sounds like it might violate the ‘sounds too good to be true’ cliché, but it makes up ground in the ‘nothing good comes easy’ category.” Chad wanted to become a trainer after seeing the profound changes CrossFit provided for his wife and son. “Once I was able to sit back and observe the transformations in Tami and Logan, I wanted to coach anyone who would listen,” he says. “I enjoy being a part of this amazing community of people who like to work hard and get better.”

"And then Ian showed up"

CrossFit is defined as "constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement." Ian brings the high intensity, and our newer members may feel a bit intimidated by him. This guy has a heart of gold, abs of steel, and a face like flint.

Ian got his start at CFWL back in 2013 and has served as a police officer for the past 10 years. His lovely wife Ash is also into the sport of fitness, and their two sons are Crossfitters in training!

A few words from Ian himself:

"Husband, father, cop, athlete, coach. I was a 240lbs meathead "bodybuilder" before finding CrossFit. I reluctantly walked into CFWL in September of 2013 because I was not seeing results with what I was doing in the gym. Needless to say, after I completed my first WOD, I was hooked. CFWL has been my home away from home ever since."
